Wojtek Gierlach has received numerous awards at international singing competitions, including the Ada Sari Competition (1999 – First Prize), Bilbao (2000 – Second Prize), the Caruso Prize (2001, Milan – First Prize), and the Francisco Viñas Competition (2004, Barcelona – Third Prize).
His notable operatic performances include Don Basilio in Il barbiere di Siviglia at the Deutsche Oper Berlin; Assur in Semiramide at the Royal Danish Opera and the Teatro Verdi in Pisa; Oroveso in Norma with the Teatro Nacional de São Carlos in Lisbon; Mustafà in L’italiana in Algeri at the Teatro São Carlos in Lisbon, the Teatro Alighieri in Ravenna, and the Minnesota Opera; Figaro in Le nozze di Figaro at the Teatr Wielki in Warsaw, the Teatro Petruzzelli in Bari, and in Poznań; Alidoro in La Cenerentola at the Aix-en-Provence Festival and the Stadttheater Klagenfurt; Argenio in Imeneo for Opera Ireland; Melisso in Alcina with the Opéra National de Bordeaux and with The English Concert and Joyce DiDonato (Alcina), conducted by Harry Bicket at Carnegie Hall in New York, the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées in Paris, and the Theater an der Wien; Orbazzano in Tancredi at the Teatro de la Maestranza in Seville; Leporello in Don Giovanni with Nico Opera Cape Town; Count Rodolfo in La sonnambula at the Theater St. Gallen; I puritani at Welsh National Opera in Cardiff; Il turco in Italia in Kraków; Maria Stuarda in Warsaw; I puritani and La Cenerentola with Den Jyske Opera in Aarhus; Guillaume Tell in Warsaw; and La bohème at Opera Podlaska. At the Teatr Wielki in Warsaw, he has also performed Colline (La bohème), Duke Alfonso (Lucrezia Borgia), Raimondo (Lucia di Lammermoor), and Escamillo (Carmen).
His concert appearances include leading roles in Saul and Elijah, conducted by Helmuth Rilling at the Warsaw Philharmonic; Beethoven’s Missa solemnis at the Berlin Konzerthaus, again under Rilling, as well as with the Lisbon Metropolitan Orchestra conducted by C. Costa; Bach’s Magnificat with the Spanish National Orchestra and Mireia Barrera; Mozart’s Requiem with Sinfonietta Cracovia under Marc Minkowski; Verdi’s Requiem conducted by Kai Baumann with the Polish Baltic Philharmonic; Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9 with the Ulster Orchestra under David Stern; Rossini’s Stabat Mater with the Oviedo Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Alberto Zedda; and Penderecki’s Dies Irae with the Simón Bolívar Symphony Orchestra in Caracas, among many other oratorio works.
Among his recordings are Rossini’s Mosè in Egitto and La donna del lago, and Meyerbeer’s Semiramide, conducted by Richard Bonynge for NAXOS. He has also recorded Ramón Carnicer’s Il dissoluto punito under Alberto Zedda for IBERAUTOR; Medea in Corinto by G. S. Mayr (Oehms); L’italiana in Algeri by Luigi Mosca (Bongiovanni); Cherubini’s Lodoïska; Weber’s Euryanthe, conducted by Łukasz Borowicz for Polskie Radio; and, most recently, Guillaume Tell conducted by Michele Mariotti for Deutsche Grammophon.
The 2017–2018 season marked his debut at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, as the Priest in Lady Macbeth of the Mtsensk District, as well as his debut as Rocco in Fidelio at Theater St. Gallen. During that season, he sang Giorgio Talbot in Maria Stuarda at the Deutsche Oper am Rhein; returned to the Polish National Opera as Hermes in Eros i Psyche by Różycki; appeared at Opera Podlaska as Colline in La bohème; and sang Widmo in Moniuszko’s Widma at the Polish Royal Opera (Teatr Królewski). Subsequently, he performed Oroveso in Norma at the Teatre Principal in Palma and Alidoro in La Cenerentola with Welsh National Opera. His concert engagements included Penderecki’s Credo in Warsaw under M. Valdés; Saint-Saëns’ Requiem with the Poznań Philharmonic conducted by M. Wieloch; the New Year’s Eve Concert at Opera Bałtycka in Gdańsk under W. Kunc; the New Year’s Concert with José Cura, the Warsaw Philharmonic, and M. de Rose; two concerts at the Lisbon Days of Music Festival singing Don Giovanni and Ivan the Terrible; Verdi’s Requiem with the London Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Matthew Hopkins; Mozart’s Litaniae and Vesperae at the 13th Mozartiana Festival in Gdańsk; Haydn’s Stabat Mater with the Łódź Philharmonic under P. Przytocki; and participation in the 11th Bosa Antica Festival in Italy.
Additional highlights include Die Entführung aus dem Serail at ABAO; Alcina at Los Angeles Opera; Rigoletto in Warsaw with Patrick Fournillier and Gilbert Deflo; Die Zauberflöte (production by Barry Kosky) at the Polish National Opera; I vespri siciliani and Fidelio with Welsh National Opera; Cardillac at the Teatr Wielki in Warsaw (production by Mariusz Treliński); and Lady Macbeth of the Mtsensk District at the Royal Opera House under Sir Antonio Pappano.

Valdés; Kilar’s Te Deum with NOSPR in Katowice; Puccini’s Messa di Gloria with the Kraków Philharmonic conducted by R. Bader; Mozart’s Great Mass in C minor, K. 427, with the Łódź Philharmonic under P. Przytocki; and Dvořák’s Stabat Mater with the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by D. Hill.
Recent engagements include Il trittico with Welsh National Opera; Il barbiere di Siviglia at the Polish Royal Opera; Le nozze di Figaro in Poznań and Warsaw; Rigoletto in Warsaw; La damnation de Faust in Łódź; Universal Prayer in Wrocław; Suor Angelica and Gianni Schicchi in the United Kingdom; Die Zauberflöte, Mozart’s Requiem, Halka, A Play about the Passion and Resurrection, Idomeneo, De Falla, and Die Schöpfung in Warsaw; Karłowicz in Bratislava; Die Zauberflöte in Poznań; Hrabina in Poznań; and King Roger in Łódź. In 2026, he is scheduled to appear in Warsaw in Rinaldo, two Mozart concerts, Falstaff, and Verdi’s Requiem in Katowice.
