We are very happy to announce that the conductor Rafael Sánchez-Araña joins our roster of artists and we would like to thank him for the trust he has placed in GoDirect.
The conductor Rafael Sánchez-Araña, current chief conductor of the Orquesta Sinfónica de Las Palmas and the Temporada de Zarzuela de Canarias, has developed an international career that has led him to conduct orchestras in more than a dozen countries in Europe.
He obtained the Superior Diploma in Violin (Castilla y León 2007) and the Superior Diploma in Choir Conducting (Canary Islands 2012). Between 2012 and 2017 he studied conducting at the Hochschule für Musik Detmold under the chair of Maestro Karl Heinz Bloemeke and Hochschule für Musik Carl Maria von Weber Dresden under the chair of Maestro Georg Christoph Sandmann, where he obtained a master's degree in conducting. Between 2017 and 2023 he was assistant conductor to the principal conductor of the OFGC, conductor of the Youth Orchestra of Gran Canaria and programmer of the Schoolchildren's Season of the Philharmonic Orchestra of Gran Canaria.
Between 2012 and 2015 he released five musical publications with the Mercurio Editorial label, including three volumes of the OEFBB, of which he was the founder, as well as other works to rescue the historical-musical heritage of the Canary Islands. He has worked as assistant conductor of different maestros such as Karel Mark Chichon, Daniel Oren, Victor Pablo Pérez or Alessandro D'Agostini. He has also worked in theaters such as Opéra National de Bourdeaux, Lithuanian National Opera, Tenerife Opera, Las Palmas Opera, Paris Opera, Szeged National Opera, with different opera titles such as Così fan tutte, Die Zauberflöte, Il barbiere di Siviglia, Carmen, Rigoletto, Aida, L'elisir d'amore, Cavalleria Rusticana or La traviata. He collaborates with great soloists such as Ermonela Jaho, Charles Castronovo, Ludovic Tézier, Nancy Fabiola Herrera, Jessica Pratt, Celso Albelo, Jorge de León, Nino Machaidze, Daniela Barcellona, Ivan Ayón Rivas or the pianist Ivo Pogorelich.
Among the orchestras he has conducted are the Sinfónica de Tenerife, Filarmónica de Gran Canaria, Sinfónica de Las Palmas, Orquesta Ciudad de Granada, Orquesta Sinfónica de Bilbao, Orquesta Gaetano Donizetti, Orquesta Academia Sinfónica de Udine, Detmolder Kammerorchester, North Czech Philharmonic, Nuribom Young Chamber Orchestra, Neue Lausitzer Philharmonie Görlizt, Elbland Philharmonie Orchester, Dresdner Kammerphilarmonie, Erzgebirgische Philharmonie Aue, Slovenian Radio and Television Orchestra, Budapest National Opera Orchestra or Lithuanian Opera Orchestra.
Among his recent works it is worth mentioning that he has replaced Maestro Chichon in Mahler's Symphony No. 3 in the OFGC's regular season and has made his debut with the Szeged Symphony Orchestra (Hungary) at the National Theater of Szeged.
His future projects include the zarzuelas La del manojo de rosas and El barbero de Sevilla as part of the 31st Temporada de Zarzuela de Canarias. He has been invited by the University of Havana and the Orchestra of the Lyceum of Havana (Cuba) to perform a workshop and concert of the zarzuela repertoire and will return to the Opera Season of Las Palmas with Roberto Devereaux.
