Omar Lara stars in Trouble in Tahiti at the Ópera de Tenerife
January 18th, 2024
Baritone Omar Lara stars in the production of Leonard Bernstein's Trouble in Tahiti at the Ópera de Tenerife. Joining the Mexican baritone, who will perform the role of Sam, will be mezzo-soprano Blanca Valido in the role of Dinah. The production is completed by the jazz trio, formed by Candelaria González, soprano, Aitor Garitano, tenor, and Borja Molina, baritone of the trio.
The opera, with music and libretto by Leonard Bernstein, was premiered in 1952 in Massachusetts and tells the story of Dinah's disenchantment with her husband Sam, who is more interested in his career and entertainment than in his family. Dinah and Sam face the pressures of the American dream, which leads them to seek happiness in materialism and consumerism. However, this search does not satisfy them and they end up separating. In parallel, and in an ironic tone, a jazz trio intervenes chorally between the couple's discussions.
For this production, the musical direction will be in charge of Francis Hernández from Tenerife and the scenic direction will be by Siscu Ruz. The performances will take place on January 20, 21, 27 and 28 in the Chamber Hall of the Auditorio de Tenerife.
