Manuel Coves conducts the ballet Le corsaire at the Colón in Buenos Aires
December 13th, 2023
Maestro Manuel Coves will conduct the ballet Le corsaire, by Adolphe Adam, at the Teatro Colón in Buenos Aires. Inspired by a poem by Lord Byron (The Corsair), the ballet has three acts and five scenes, plus an epilogue with a libretto by Jules-Henri Vernoy de Saint-Georges.
The story of the ballet is set on the Ionian Sea and the west coast of Greece. The protagonist, Conrad, is a Turkish corsair who falls in love with Medora, a Christian slave. Medora is held captive by Pasha Selim, a tyrant who is also in love with her.
The original 1856 choreography is by Joseph Mazilier but on this occasion we will have a version by the Canadian Anna-Marie Holmes. Maestro Coves will conduct the Orquesta Filarmónica de Buenos Aires. The performances he conducts will take place at the Teatro Colón in Buenos Aires on 17, 19, 20, 21, 22 and 23 December.
