Jorge Franco performs Haydn's Stabat Mater at the Teatre Principal de Palma
March 20th, 2024
On the occasion of Holy Week, the Teatre Principal will offer its traditional Easter Concert with the participation of tenor Jorge Franco. The cast will also include soloists Maria Casado, soprano, Begoña Gómez, mezzo-soprano, and baritone Enric Martínez-Castignani.
In his Stabat Mater, Haydn expresses all his religious sensitivity, reflecting his deep devotion as a fervent Catholic. Through this work, Haydn illustrates the tragedy and suffering of the Virgin Mary as she contemplates the agony of her son Jesus on the cross. This composition becomes a powerful allegory of the Universal Mother, who shares the pain of all humanity.
Francesc Bonnín will conduct the Orquestra de Cambra de Mallorca and the Cor del Teatre Principal.
The concert will take place on the 24th of March in Palma's Teatre Principal.
