Great triumph for Ramón Vargas at the Teatro de la Zarzuela
February 13th, 2023
Tenor Ramón Vargas achieved a great success at the concert on 6 February at the Teatro de la Zarzuela, where he shared the stage with soprano Ainhoa Arteta. The critics have said:
"It is a pleasure, and something increasingly rare nowadays, to hear a tenor who opens his mouth and has a perfectly positioned voice, a perfectly consolidated emission (...) the class of the phrasing, the high school singing with bel canto roots remain unscathed. All this could be appreciated in a tasty "Yo no sé qué veo en Ana Mari" from Guridi's El Caserío or in the phrases, full of lyrical effusion "Nadie sabe defender ..." from the duet of the same work (...) His intervention as Javier in both duets of Moreno Torroba's Luisa Fernanda demonstrated his established phrasing and careful diction. Vargas also introduced less frequent pieces such as Tehaé's beautiful romanza "No me quiere" from Pablo Sorozábal's La isla de las perlas, delineated with great taste and lyrical accents by the Mexican tenor". Raúl Chamorro (Codalario)
"At the age of 63, he demonstrated mastery of his noble instrument, an impeccable technique and a phrasing and diction very suitable for this repertoire. Above all, he highlighted his interpretation of the romance "Ahora que todo ha terminado", from the recent premiere of El orgullo de quererte, from Javier Carmena himself.” Rocío Garcialonso (Ópera Actual)
