Born in Ferrol (A Coruña) in 1991. He graduated from the Escuela Superior de Música Reina Sofía (BMus and PGMus), where he studied under Ryland Davies and Francisco Araiza.
He has taken part in masterclasses with some of the most distinguished singers, conductors and stage directors, including Teresa Berganza, Juliane Banse, Susan Bullock, Leigh Melrose, Sarah Connolly, Ruggero Raimondi, Alberto Zedda, Andrés Orozco-Estrada, Alfonso Romero Mora and Justin Way.
Among the awards he has received are First Prize at the Amigos de la Ópera de Santiago de Compostela Competition (2014), Third Prize at the Ciudad de Logroño International Singing Competition (2019) and Third Prize at the Ciudad de Albacete National Singing Competition (2021).
His professional career began at the Teatro Victoria Eugenia in San Sebastián with Il barbiere di Siviglia. In the following years, he took part in productions at the Teatro Cervantes in Málaga in Rigoletto; with Amigos de la Ópera de A Coruña in recitals, La verbena de la Paloma, La forza del destino, Roméo et Juliette and Carmen; with Amigos de la Ópera de Vigo in recitals and Rigoletto; and at the Teatro Real in Madrid in the Mozart Revolution Gala, among others.
He has also performed leading roles including Silvio in Pagliacci, Marcello and Schaunard in La bohème, Figaro in Il barbiere di Siviglia and Giorgio Germont in La traviata.
His symphonic and chamber repertoire includes works such as Fauré’s Requiem, Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony, Orff’s Carmina Burana, Saint-Saëns’s Christmas Oratorio, and Mahler’s Kindertotenlieder and Lieder eines fahrenden Gesellen, among others. He has given song and Lied recitals at the Teatro Afundación in A Coruña, the Richard Strauss Saal in Garmisch-Partenkirchen (Germany) and Schloss Laudon in Vienna.
He has given numerous world premieres, including Xabier de Paz’s Dúas cantigas for baritone and orchestra with the Real Filharmonía de Galicia. Contemporary composers such as Miquel Ortega, Juan Durán (winner of the 2018 Reina Sofía Composition Prize) and Borja Mariño have also written works specifically for his voice.
His recordings include Mientras se borra el mundo, with pianist Aurelio Viribay, which together with Mar Morán brings together Borja Mariño’s music for voice and piano (2024), and No Camiño, spanning two centuries of Galician song (2021).
Among his recent and upcoming engagements are appearances at the Al Bustan Festival in Beirut in La tragédie de Carmen (Escamillo) alongside Anita Rachvelishvili and Gianni Schicchi (Marco) alongside Sir Bryn Terfel; at Teatro Cafam in Bogotá in leading roles in Luisa Fernanda, La leyenda del beso, Carmen and La viuda alegre; at the Festival de Teatro Lírico de Oviedo in La Gran Vía and Adiós a la Bohemia; at Ópera de Oviedo in Rigoletto (Marullo); with ABAO in Andrea Chénier (Roucher); at the Teatro de la Zarzuela in the recital Esencias Gallegas; at the Teatre Principal de Palma in Dido and Aeneas and Oda a Santa Cecilia; in Jenůfa (Stárek) during the lyric season in A Coruña; and as the Chaplain in the world premiere of Cecilia Bercovich’s Las 13 rosas rojas at the Teatro de la Zarzuela, among other engagements.
