GERARDO BULLÓN

barítono

* Exclusive representation: USA

Born in Madrid, he studied singing with Virginia Prieto, Julián Molina, Daniel Muñoz, and Ricardo Muñiz. After earning a degree in Law, he continued his studies at the Escuela Superior de Canto de Madrid and in Dramatic Arts.

Gerardo Bullón works as a soloist with conductors such as Nicola Luisotti, Ivor Bolton, Óliver Díaz, Guillermo García Calvo, Luís Remartínez, and Jordi Bernácer, among others, as well as with stage directors including José Carlos Plaza, Graham Vick, Robert Wilson, Deborah Warner, Gustavo Tambascio, Ángel Montesinos, and Eduardo Bazo.

He has performed major roles from both the operatic repertoire--Don Giovanni, Gianni Schicchi, Tosca, Madama Butterfly, Così fan tutte, L’elisir d’amore, Il barbiere di Siviglia, La finta giardiniera, Carmen, Rigoletto, La Bohème—and zarzuela, including La revoltosa, Marina, El dúo de la Africana, Los diamantes de la corona, La gallina ciega, Luisa Fernanda, El barquillero, La chulapona, El bateo, and Agua, azucarillos y aguardiente.

In 2017, he made his debut at the Teatro Real in Madrid in two productions: Britten’s Billy Budd and Montsalvatge’s El gato con botas. In early 2018, he returned to the Teatro Real in Kurt Weill’s Street Scene, a production he reprised at the Opéra de Monte-Carlo in 2020. This was followed by Turandot by Puccini, Menotti’s The Telephone, the role of Angelotti in Tosca—to great critical and public acclaim—Prokofiev’s The Fiery Angel, staged by Calixto Bieito, and once again the role of the Mandarin in Turandot.

Over the years, his collaboration with the Teatro de la Zarzuela in Madrid has intensified, making him a regular presence at this venue. He has appeared in productions including La verbena de la Paloma, Curro Vargas, Black el Payaso, Pinocho, La Grande-Duchesse de Gérolstein, Los diamantes de la corona, El Gato Montés, Tres sombreros de copa, La tempranica, La vida breve, Benamor, El barberillo de Lavapiés, Pan y toros, La Dolores, and Enrique Viana’s show Don Pablo… ¿con brocha?, as well as, more recently, the world premiere of El caballero de Olmedo by Arturo Díez Boscovich.

His professional career continues on an upward trajectory with engagements such as Il finto sordo by Manuel García and El pájaro de dos colores by Conrado del Campo at the Fundación March, and Don Giovanni at the Opera of A Coruña. He made his debut at the Gran Teatre del Liceu in Barcelona in the role of Baron Douphol in La traviata, and returned to A Coruña as Riccardo in I puritani. More recently, he took on another major challenge by debuting the role of Sharpless in Madama Butterfly at the Teatro de la Maestranza in Seville, where he later returned with La Dolores, as well as performing the Count Gil in Il segreto di Susanna by Wolf-Ferrari at the Gran Teatro de Córdoba.

Among Bullón’s recent performances are Sharpless in Madama Butterfly at both the Teatro Real and the Liceu; his participation in Las golondrinas at the Teatro de la Zarzuela; Scarpia in Tosca at the Stuttgart State Opera; Rigoletto at the Santa Fe Opera and in Oviedo; La vida breve / Tejas verdes at the Teatro Real; El bateo / La revoltosa at the Teatro de la Zarzuela; Quien porfía mucho alcanza at the Seville Opera Festival; and Werther in Vigo.

This season, he makes his debut in La Edad de Plata and El gato montés at the Teatro de la Zarzuela.
