Soprano Génesis Moreno has received numerous awards at major international competitions. In 2023, she won First Prize, the Prize for Best Zarzuela Performance and the Audience Prize at the 9th Alfredo Kraus International Singing Competition. In 2025, she was awarded the Maestro John Bills First Prize at the San Miguel Competition, as well as several distinctions at the Carlo Morelli Competition, including First Prize in the Female Category, the Pro Ópera Audience Prize and the Etelvina Rodríguez First Prize in the Female Zarzuela Category, in addition to the Escena 77, OSIPN, Híbrido Ópera Lab and FAOT prizes. These distinctions are complemented by, among others, the Pro Música Prize, the Meiningen Prize, the Grupo Árinder Prize and the María Callas Competition Prize. In 2021, she had also won First Prize at the Linus Lerner International Competition.
She began her musical studies at the age of ten within Venezuela’s National System of Youth and Children’s Orchestras and Choirs, where she was principal cellist of the Petare Youth Orchestra. She was also a member of the Simón Bolívar National Youth Choir, performing under the baton of Maestro Gustavo Dudamel.
Her operatic repertoire includes roles such as Adina in L’elisir d’amore, Rosina in Il barbiere di Siviglia, Gilda in Rigoletto, Juliette in Roméo et Juliette and Marguerite in Faust.
In the symphonic and oratorio repertoire, she has appeared as a soloist in Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony, Mahler’s Second Symphony and Carl Orff’s Carmina Burana, and has been invited to the prestigious Alfonso Ortiz Tirado Festival (FAOT) in Mexico.
Highlights of recent seasons include an opera gala with Austin Opera, her participation in the gala celebrating Ramón Vargas’s 40-year career alongside the Ópera de Bellas Artes, Juliette in Roméo et Juliette at the Teatre Principal de Palma, in Sinaloa and at the Ópera de Oviedo, Gilda in Rigoletto at the Ópera de Bellas Artes in Mexico, as well as a concert at the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino.
She has also performed Carmen and La traviata in Mexico, returned to Las Palmas for L’elisir d’amore and to the Teatre Principal de Palma for Rigoletto, and has appeared in concert alongside Javier Camarena and in Mozart’s Requiem with the Málaga Philharmonic Orchestra.
During the 2026/27 season, Génesis Moreno continues to consolidate her international presence with new engagements including Rigoletto at the Teatro de la Maestranza in Seville, several concerts in Mexico City, and further operatic and concert appearances to be announced shortly.
She is currently a member of the Bellas Artes Opera Studio in Mexico City.
