The soprano Génesis Moreno has been recognized with numerous awards in major international competitions. In 2023, she received First Prize, the Best Zarzuela Interpretation Award, and the Audience Award at the IX Alfredo Kraus International Singing Competition. In 2025, she was awarded the Maestro John Bills First Prize at the San Miguel Competition, as well as the Pro Ópera Audience Award, the Pro Música Award, the Carlo Morelli Competition Award 2025 and 2026, the Meiningen Award, the Grupo Árinder Award, and the María Callas Competition Award. Also in 2025, she was honored at the Carlo Morelli Competition, where in its 42nd edition she received multiple distinctions, including First Place Female, the Pro Ópera Audience Award, First Place Female in Zarzuela Etelvina Rodríguez, the Escena 77 Award, the OSIPN Award, the Hybrid Ópera Lab Award, and the FAOT Award, in addition to recognitions from institutions such as the National Coordination of Music and Opera of INBAL, the UNAM Music Directorate, and Matta Couture. In 2021, she was also awarded First Prize at the Linus Lerner International Competition.
She began her musical studies at the age of ten in Venezuela’s National System of Orchestras and Choirs, and performed as principal cellist in the Petare Youth Orchestra. She was also a member of the Simón Bolívar National Youth Choir, where she performed under the baton of Maestro Gustavo Dudamel.
Her operatic repertoire includes the roles of Adina in L’elisir d’amore, Rosina in Il barbiere di Siviglia, Gilda in Rigoletto, and Marguerite in Faust. In the symphonic and oratorio repertoire, she has appeared as soloist in Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony, Mahler’s Second Symphony, and Carl Orff’s Carmina Burana, and has been invited to the prestigious Mexican festival Alfonso Ortiz Tirado (FAOT).
Among her recent performances are an Opera Gala with Austin Opera, Texas, her participation in the 40th Anniversary Gala of Ramón Vargas with the Ópera de Bellas Artes, Romeo et Juliette (Juliette) at the Teatre Principal de Palma and in Sinaloa, Rigoletto (Gilda) at the Ópera de Bellas Artes of Mexico, and a concert at the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino.
This season she reprises the role of Juliette in the production of Romeo et Juliette at the Ópera de Oviedo, sings Carmen and La traviata in Mexico, returns to Las Palmas with L’elisir d’amore and to the Teatre Principal de Palma in a production of Rigoletto, in addition to participating in a concert with Javier Camarena and in Verdi’s Requiem with the Málaga Philharmonic Orchestra, among other engagements.
She is currently a member of the Estudio de Ópera de Bellas Artes in Mexico City.
