Born in Lanzarote (Canary Islands), Francisco Corujo is one of the most promising Spanish tenors and has won awards at competitions such as Francisco Viñas and Iris Adami Corradetti. He has studied in Spain and Italy, with María Orán in the Canary Islands, Manuel Cid and Tom Krause in the Escuela Superior de Música Reina Sofía, and Carlo Bergonzi in the Academia Verdiana de Busseto.
His repertoire includes operas such as La Traviata, Rigoletto, Macbeth, Cosi fan tutte or Roméo et Juliette. He is also an accomplished performer of oratorio and symphony, of works Requiem by Mozart, Messa di Gloria by Puccini and Beethoven's 9th Symphony. He has worked with conductors such as Plácido Domingo, Jesús López Cobos, Phillipe Entremont, Joseph Pons, Giancarlo Del Monaco, Emilio Sagi, Liu Jä, Nicola Luisotti, Luc Bondi, Giuliano Carella, Robert Carsen and Vasily Petrenko.
He made his debut in 2006 with Die Fledermaus for the Amigos Canarios of Ópera in Las Palmas and since then, Francisco has performed in the most important halls and theatres of Spain and Italy.
His notable appearances include include La Traviata (Alfredo) in La Fenice; Romeo et Juliette at the Arena di Verona; Don Giovanni (Don Ottavio) at Teatro Verdi di Salerno; Idomeneo (Arbace) and Ópera Intergaláctica at the Teatro Real de Madrid; Macbeth (Macduff), Nabucco (Ismaele), together with baritone Leo Nucci, Tristan und Isolde under the baton of Eliahu Inbal, Lucrezia Borgia and Falstaff in La Coruña; Lucia di Lammermoor (Edgardo) at the Opera of Tel Aviv, under the baton of Yshai Steckler and Emilio Sagi and also in Pavia, Cremona and Brescia; Otello by Verdi (Cassio) at Teatro Petruzzelli di Bari, Teatro Pérez Galdós in Las Palmas, Teatro de la Maestranza, Auditorio Baluarte and Gran Teatro de Córdoba; Misa D950 by Schubert at the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino conducted by Andrea Battistoni; Cosi Fan Tutte (Ferrando) in Cagliari with Cristopher Franklin and Damiano Michieletto; Roméo et Juliette (Romeo) in Zagreb; Die Zauberflöte (Tamino) at Gran Teatro Nacional de Perú, Coruña and Opera Naples in Florida; I due foscari at Theatre Capitole de Toulouse; 9th Symphony by Beethoven in Coruña, with the Orquestra Simfónica del Vallés and also in Santo Domingo; La Bohème at Auditorio de Tenerife and at Teatro Campoamor in Oviedo; Les pêcheurs de perles with the Real Filharmonía in Santiago de Compostela and Vigo; Der fliegende Höllander with the Orquesta de Valencia; Doña Francisquita at Auditorio de Tenerife; El mozo de mulas with the Sinfónica de Burgos at Auditorio del Fórum Evolución; Manfred at Fundación Juan March in Madrid; La hija del Mestre at Auditorio Teatro de Las Palmas de Gran Canaria; Txanozuritxu (Caperucita blanca) in ABAO; El Barberillo de Lavapiés at Teatro de la Zarzuela. He has also sung in various galas, recitals and concerts, such as tributes to Alfredo Kraus in Oviedo and at the Auditorio Teatro de Las Palmas, a Recital in Las Palmas, Tribute concert to Leonard Bernstein and to Miguel Fleta in Coruña, a Gala with Celso Albelo and Jorge de León and Requiem by Mozart in the Baleares.
In 2013 he released his first record for the label Playclassics, with the pianist Ángel Cabrera. The album is dedicated to the Neapolitan composer Francesco Paolo Tosti, which he performed in several recitals in Mallorca, Jaén, Menorca and Coruña.
His latest performances include Don Giovanni at the Palacio de la Ópera in Coruña and in San Sebastián, Marina at the Teatro Cuyás in Las Palmas, El loro de Carlos V at the Teatro Colón in Coruña, Adriana Lecouvrer and Macbeth in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria and La Bohème at Opera Garage.
Among his recent performances and upcoming commitments, it is worth highlighting a Lyric Gala at the Teatro Cuyás, El barberillo de Lavapiés at the Teatro de la Zarzuela, Falstaff with Friends of the Vigo Opera, I Puritani in Mahón, Romeo et Juliette in the Lyric Season of Coruña, Luisa Fernanda with the Krakow Philharmonic and at the Mi Festival.
