Emiliano Suárez's Tosca: Groundbreaking and unprejudiced
29 de mayo de 2024
Following the premiere of Emiliano Suárez's production of Tosca in Desguaces Foro, Burgos, Platea Magazine has echoed the great work done by the stage director. Specifically, it highlights the following: ‘Emiliano Suárez's stage proposal sets the action in Spain in the 1960s and plays at the same time with various references to our 20th century history, suggesting for example a certain parallelism between Picasso and Cavaradossi (the production's poster itself is based on a painting by Miguel Caravaca, with a Picassoian air). The floor of the space itself had been carpeted with front pages of El Correo and the character of Scarpia and his henchmen appear characterised in the manner of Franco's armed police aka grises. It is a perfectly legitimate translation of space and time, which could well be developed further in a full production of the title, in theatre, such as the Don Pasquale with which Emiliano Suárez will open the next ABAO season’.
