Born in Colombia, Christian Díaz began his musical studies at the conservatory of Bogotá, and continued studies at the Accademia lirica di Osimo (2007) with Sergio Segalini, William Matteuzzi, Antonio Juvarra, Raina Kabaivanska, Lella Cuberli, Harriet Lawson, Alla Simoni, among others. In 2012 he graduated from Escuela Superior de Canto de Madrid with Juan Lomba and continues to specialize with lleana Cotrubas and Enza Ferrari.
His repertoire include roles such as Masetto (Don Giovanni), Colline (La Bohème), Marqués d’Obigny (La Traviata), Enrico (L’isola disabitata) at the Teatro Colón and Teatro Municipal in Bogotá; Mendo de Quexada (Pelagio, by Mercadante) and Edmondo (Re Lear, by Cagnoni) at the Festival della Valle d’Itria de Martina Franca; Haly (L’italiana in Algeri) and Don Pasquale at the Lucca Opera Festival.
He has performed in several Spanish Theaters, such us Gran Teatro del Liceu in Barcelona (Andrea Chénier), Teatro Real in Madrid (Thaïs and Moses und Aron), ABAO (Manon, by Massenet), Palau de les Arts de Valencia (I vespri siciliani), Teatro Campoamor in Oviedo (Tosca and Andrea Chénier), Festival Castell de Peralada (Thaïs), Auditorio Nacional de Música de Madrid (La Traviata), Amigos de la Ópera de la Coruña (Un ballo in maschera). Further, he has performed the emblematic roles of Sparafucile (Rigoletto) and Colline (La Bohème) in Vigo and Málaga and Gijón, respectively.
In the symphonic-choral repertoire, he has sung Stabat Mater by Dvořák (Auditorio Nacional de Música), Symphony No. 9 by Beethoven (Bogotá) and the role of Adam in Die Schöpfung by Haydn (Festival della Valle d’Itria in Martina Franca).
He has shared the stage with singers such as Plácido Domingo, Jonas Kaufmann, Sondra Radvanovski, Ermonela Jaho, Carlos Álvarez, Gregory Kunde, Irina Lungu, Juan Jesús Rodríguez, Ainhoa Arteta, Jorge de León, Michael Fabiano, etc.
Díaz has worked under the batons of prestigious conductors such as Roberto Abbado, Pinchas Steinberg, Patrick Fournillier, Alain Guingal, Ramon Tebar and Andrés Orozco, among others. He has also worked with stage directors such as Jean-Louis Pichon, Davide Livermore, David McVicar, Arnaud Bernard, Mario Pontiggia, Ignacio García and Alfonso Romero Mora.
In his discography, he appears performing roles such as Pelagio and Re Lear recorded by Dynamic Opera & Classical Music.
Among his recent performances we highlight Don Carlo, Philip Glass's Orphèe, La nariz and La regenta at the Teatro Real; La fanciulla del west in ABAO; La traviata at the Teatro de la Maestranza and the Teatro Villamarta in Jerez; Tosca at the Teatro Cervantes in Malaga and at the Teatro Mayor Julio Mario Santo Domingo in Bogotá; Don Gil de Alcalá at the Oviedo Spanish Lyric Theater Festival; the premiere of La paz perpetua in Badajoz; in addition to different functions of Aida and Rigoletto throughout the Spanish geography.
