We are very happy to announce that conductor Carlos Aragón has joined our roster of artists and we would like to thank him for the trust he has placed in GoDirect.
Carlos Aragón is one of the most versatile musicians in the Spanish music scene, not only for his double facet as conductor and pianist but also for the breadth of the repertoire he covers, from the early masterpieces of the baroque (Handel, Vivaldi, Hasse, Porpora, Pergolesi...) to romanticism or verismo (Donizetti, Verdi, Puccini...). Great connoisseur of the different interpretative styles, this allows him to approach the vocal repertoire from the recital with piano, being highly valued by professionals of recognized prestige, to the direction of operas and oratorios in which the vocals require greater attention and care.
He studied at the Conservatory of Music in Seville and the Liszt Academy in Budapest, specializing in the field of opera as a repertoire specialist. As a conductor he trained with Gianluca Martinenghi, Bruno Campanella and Antonio Florio, with whom he worked on the recovery of the Neapolitan lyrical repertoire of the eighteenth century.
Among the operatic titles he has conducted are La Cenerentola, Lucia di Lammermoor, La Traviata, Rigoletto, Otello, Tosca and Suor Angelica at the Teatro Villamarta in Jerez; L'italiana in Algeri in Cordoba, La clemenza di Tito and Carmen in Valladolid; and Arriaga's La princesa árabe, a project initially conceived by the Baremboim-Said Foundation, at the Teatro Arriaga in Bilbao, Baluarte in Pamplona and Teatro de la Zarzuela in Madrid, among others. Of particular note was his debut in 2018 at the Grand Opéra d'Avignon, conducting the score of Le nozze di Figaro, and more recently, at the Teatro Cervantes in Malaga with Il Trovatore.
In the Spanish lyric repertoire he conducts Lleò's La corte de Faraón at the Arriaga and at the Veranos de la Villa Festival in Madrid; Serrano's El trust de los tenorios and Chapí's El puñao de rosas, in a double program, at the Zarzuela; Vives' Doña Francisquita at the Teatro Principal in Palma de Mallorca, and Falla's El amor brujo with the cantaora Carmen Linares within the cycle "Maestros del Flamenco" at the Auditorio Nacional in Madrid.
As a pianist and orchestra conductor he is a regular accompanist of leading figures, among whom the mezzo-soprano Vivica Genaux stands out, with whom he establishes a close and fruitful relationship, performing numerous concerts and recitals in emblematic venues such as the Royal Chapel of the Palace of Versailles, Tchaikowski Hall, Bolshoi Theater in Moscow and Monteverdi Festival in Venice, among others.
As an active teacher closely linked to the preparation of singers, it is important to point out his pedagogical work with young talents. He collaborates with the EPCASO Foundation of the United States in its annual summer course in Italy and is also invited by the Royaumont Foundation in Paris to conduct its lyric project within the opera-study program, with Rossini's Il viaggio a Reims.
