Bass Dmitry Ulyanov stars in Boris Godunov at the Bayerische Staatsoper

Dmitry Ulyanov stars in the upcoming production of Boris Godunov at the Bayerische Staatsoper. He will embody the title role of this opera by Modest Mussorgski, along with Emily Sierra, who will perform the role of Fjodor, soprano Mirjam Mesak, who will be Xenia, tenor Dmytro Popov who will perform the monk Grigorij Otrepjew, or mezzo-soprano Nadezhda Karyazina who will be Xenias Amme, among others.
On this occasion, the Bayerisches Staatsorchester and the choir will be conducted by Dima Slobodeniouk. The production, by Calixto Bieito, was premiered in this same theater in 2013 and, with an austere staging, emphasizes the psychological portrait of the Russian tsar.
The opera Boris Godunov, one of the most important operas in the Russian repertoire, is based on the homonymous work by Aleksandr Pushkin and the History of the Russian State by Nikolai Karamzin, and tells the story of Tsar Boris Godunov, who reigned from 1598 to 1605, and the struggle between the Russian and Polish people during this period. The performances will take place on January 14, 17, 19 and 21 at the Nationaltheater of the Bayerische Staatsoper.
