Since her operatic debut in 2000 as Donna Elvira in Don Giovanni, Grammy Award winner Ana Ibarra has had an active international career.
She is a regular guest at the Gran Teatro del Liceo in Barcelona and the Teatro Real in Madrid, and has also performed at the Canadian Opera Company, Dutch National Opera, La Monnaie in Brussels, Mariinsky Theatre, Theatre an Der Wien, ABAO in Bilbao, English National Opera, Teatro Colón in Buenos Aires, Vlaamse Opera, Wielki Theater, Oviedo Opera and Maestranza in Sevilla, among others.
She has worked with many well-known conductors such as Yannick Nezet-Seguin, Sir Colin Davis, Enrique Mazzola, Marc Minkowski, Marc Albrecht, James Gaffigan, Ricardo Frizza, Giampaolo Bisanti, Jesús López Cobos, Edward Gardner, Kazusi Ono, Bertrand de Billy, Josep Pons, Rossen Milanov, Juanjo Mena, Dima Slobodeniouk, Pedro Haffter, Víctor Pablo Pérez, Jose Miguel Perez Sierra, David Gimenez, Paul Goodwin and Jeremie Rhorer, among others.
She combines her operatic performances with concerts and recitals. She has performed at the Tonhalle in Zurich, Konzerthaus in Viena, Barbican Center in Londres, Auditorio Nacional in Madrid, Auditori in Barcelona, Four Seasons Centre in Toronto, Kursaal in San Sebastián, Palau de la Música in Barcelona, Palau in Valencia and Bucarest National Radio Hall, in a repertoire that includes Verdi Requiem, Wagner Wesendonck Lieder and Mahler Symphonies N.2 and N.3.
Her repertoire has been expanding and evolving throughout her career, currently focusing her activity on the traditional mezzosoprano roles such as Carmen and Dalila (Samson et Dalila); the great Verdi roles such as Amneris (Aida) or Azucena (Il Trovatore), as well as 20th century repertoire such as Oedipus Rex (Stravinsky) or Bluebeard Castle (Bartok). Her love for contemporary repertoire has led to work premieres of new works such as Luis de Pablo’s El Abrecartas at the Teatro Real in Madrid, Leonardo Balada’s opera, Faust-Ball, Xavier Montsalvatge’s Babel 46, or La casa de Bernarda Alba by Miquel Ortega.
She collaborates regularly with Teatro de la Zarzuela in Madrid, having taken part in productions such as La Bruja, Una Noche de Zarzuela, La Del Soto del Parral, Luisa Fernanda and more recently, Las Golondrinas. Spanish Music is an essential part of her musical career and she has taken part in world tours and international festivals with the Orquesta Nacional de España playing the role of Salud in Falla’s La Vida Breve and Rosario in Goyescas, with the Orquesta del Gran Teatro del Liceu.
She has recorded for Deutsche Grammophon, Opus Arte, BBC, LSO. Her recordings include Falstaff with Sir Colin Davis and the London Symphony Orchestra, Wagner’s Ring at Liceu in Barcelona with Bertrand de Billy, La Conquista de Granada with Jesus López Cobos at Teatro Real, Zarzuela Gala with Carlos Alvarez, as well as several CDs of Spanish Lieder and chamber music.
Among her performances this season we highlight Il tabarro / Gianni Schicchi at the Ópera de Oviedo, Dialogues des Carmelites at the Teatro Cervantes de Málaga and Doña Francisquita at the Teatro de la Zarzuela. Her engagements next season include Il Trittico at ABAO and the double bill La vida breve / Tejas verdes at the Teatro Real, among others.
