Alejandro Roy performs Calaf tonight in Turandot at the Gran Teatre del Liceu
December 15th, 2023
This evening, tenor Alejandro Roy takes on the role of the Tartar prince in Giacomo Puccini's Turandot at the Liceu in Barcelona.
It is a role he has already sung on several occasions with great success, such as at the Metropolitan Opera in New York in 2019, at the Teatro San Carlo di Napoli and at the Torre del Lago Puccini Festival, among others.
It is also an evening of great significance, not only for the fact of singing a role of such importance on a stage like this, but also because tonight is a very special celebration, as it will be the 100th performance of Turandot in the history of the Barcelona coliseum.
The tenor from Gijón will share the stage with soloists such as Catherine Foster in the title role, Adam Palka as Timur, María Agresta as Liù, Manel Esteve as Ping, Moisés Marín as Pang, Antoni Lliteres as Pong and David Lagares as Mandarin.
An equally significant fact is that this is the legendary production by Núria Espert that opened the Liceu after the 1994 fire. On this occasion, the revival is being staged by Bárbara Lluch, while the musical direction is by Diego García Rodríguez, conducting the Orquesta Sinfónica del Gran Teatre del Liceu, the Coro del Gran Teatre del Liceu and the Coro infantil del Orfeó Català.
The performance will take place today, 15 December, at 19:30h.
