Tenor Alejandro Roy is currently in Oviedo performing with great success the role of Fernando in the opera Goyescas by Enrique Granados. Alongside him, a magnificent cast composed of Carmen Solís, in charge of the role of Rosario, Cristina Faus, who performs Pepa, and Damián del Castillo as Paquiro.
The first reviews of the production have already been published in different media. Ópera Actual says that "Alejandro Roy was impeccable as Fernando", while in La Nueva España it is said that "Alejandro Roy exhibited a well timbre emission, solid in all registers, portraying Fernando always in the front line". In the same line, Ópera World writes: "Carmen Solís (Rosario) and Alejandro Roy (Fernando), the soprano from Extremadura and the tenor from Asturias, both dominating the scene and matching their voices, were also vocally resounding".
In addition to Goyescas, the program is completed with Manuel de Falla's El retablo de Maese Pedro. Francisco López, stage director of both productions, has titled the project La Edad de Plata. Díptico español, and is co-produced with the Teatro Cervantes de Málaga.
The libretto of Goyescas, written by Fernando Periquet, is inspired by works by the painter Francisco de Goya, specifically El pelele (1791-1792). Here Falla displays his great capacity as an orchestrator to present us with a varied timbral and dramatic palette.
Álvaro Albiach is conducting the Orquesta Oviedo Filarmonía and the Coro Titular de la Ópera de Oviedo.
So far there have been two performances, on November 12 and 14, and there is still a chance to come to the Teatro Campoamor, where it is being performed, both today, November 16 and next Saturday 18.
