Ángeles Blancas participates in the Spanish premiere of Lear, the opera by Aribert Reimann

Soprano Ángeles Blancas will perform the role of Goneril in the next production of Lear at the Teatro Real. This is the Spanish premiere of Aribert Reimann's opera based on Shakespeare's King Lear.
The opera, which premiered at the Nationaltheater in Munich in 1978, with Fischer-Dieskau as King Lear, features Danish baritone Bo Skovhus in this cast. He is accompanied by Torben Jürgens, bass-baritone, in the role of the King of France, as well as Derek Welton, also bass-baritone, in the role of the Duke of Albany. The cast is completed by Erika Sunnegårdh as Regan and Susanne Elmark as Cordelia, among others.
The production is signed by Calixto Bieito, who recovers intact the scenography that saw the light in Paris in 2016. Set with images of German expressionism and iconography of Spanish painting, it puts the focus on greed and madness as drivers of tragedy.
The Orchestra and Chorus of the Teatro Real will be conducted on this occasion by Asher Fisch.
Performances can be enjoyed on January 26, 29 and 31 and on February 3, 5 and 7 at the Teatro Real.
