The Spanish mezzo-soprano Sandra Ferrández has recently been interviewed by Ópera Actual magazine on the occasion of her return to the Oviedo Opera, where she will perform the title role in Georges Bizet’s Carmen at the Teatro Campoamor.
In the interview, Ferrández reflects on her personal and artistic connection to the character of Carmen, whom she describes as a “sensitive, free spirit and very loyal to her friends,” highlighting the vocal and dramatic complexity of one of the most iconic roles in the operatic repertoire.
The production of Carmen, which will close the 2025–26 season of the Oviedo Opera at the Teatro Campoamor, features stage direction by Emilio Sagi and musical direction by Rubén Díez. The cast brings together outstanding performers such as Jeroboám Tejera, Emmanuel Franco, Antonio Corianò, Damián del Castillo, Marcela Rahal, and Sandra Ferrández herself in the title role, accompanied by the Oviedo Filarmonía and the house choirs. Bizet’s opera will be presented in five performances between January 30 and February 7, 2026. The full interview is available in the digital edition of Ópera Actual.
