Ramón Vargas stars in Ariel Ramírez's Misa Criolla in Toulouse
4th of December 2024
Mexican tenor Ramón Vargas will be the star of the upcoming concert at the Théâtre du Capitole in Toulouse. Accompanied by the tenor and musical director Emiliano González Toro, they will perform Misa Criolla and Navidad nuestra by the composer Ariel Ramírez with the Choir of the National Opera of Toulouse.
The concerts will take place on 7 and 8 December at the Théâtre du Capitole in Toulouse. On the other hand, on the occasion of his participation in Un ballo in maschera at the Teatro Colón, Ramón Vargas has been interviewed by various media. The newspaper La Nación dedicates a page to him in which they talk about the cultural management of the different governments, as well as the hegemony that the Teatro Colón has historically had, a reference point in the whole American continent together with the Met. The Mexican tenor also appeared on Radio Nacional Clásica, in a special in which he reviews his extensive career, recalling his debut at the Colón, almost 30 years ago, also offering his view on the current state of the opera scene.
The reviews of Ramón Vargas' participation in Verdi's opera have been largely positive. The newspaper La Nación highlights the following: "In his return to the Colón, Ramón Vargas showed that, now a veteran in these matters, he still has a neat, accurate and confident singing, with no problems whatsoever in reaching the high notes that Verdi sowed profusely in the role".
For its part, the Mexican magazine Pro Ópera comments: "The undisputed winner of the evening was the Mexican tenor Ramón Vargas, the only star of the lyric firmament present this year in the Colón's lyric season. His Riccardo had vocal grandeur, phrasing of great emotional intensity and perfect dramatic involvement in front of his rival".
Finally, VOS highlights Vargas' talent in adapting to such a complex role: "Ramón Vargas' vocal and acting versatility in the role of Riccardo, with spectacular marathon arias, showed the complexities of his role and traced the evolution from buffoonish immaturity to reasonableness, with an intense dramatic connection. Vargas knows how to vary his moods well, from La rivedrà nell'estasi to the Siciliana of the fisherman singing in disguise in Ulrica's house. In the third act aria Ma se m'è forza perderti, the tenor reached an overwhelming dramatic intensity".
