Pablo Urbina appointed Principal Conductor of the Orquestra do Algarve
January 22nd, 2025
Maestro Pablo Urbina has been appointed Principal Conductor of the Orquestra do Algarve in Faro, Portugal.
Following several collaborations throughout 2024, during which he conducted works by Mozart, Gounod, and Paisiello, the Basque-Navarrese maestro will make his debut as the orchestra's Principal Conductor on January 31 with a program featuring compositions by Ruth Gipps, Malcolm Arnold, and Haydn.
This season, his engagements include returning to the seasons of the Orquesta Sinfónica de Navarra, the National Youth Orchestra of Great Britain, and Orquestra Sem Fronteiras, his debut with the Orquestra Filarmonia das Beiras, and his return to the Ópera de Tenerife, where he will conduct El Retablo de Maese Pedro with the Orquesta Sinfónica de Tenerife.
Pablo Urbina has expressed his gratitude for the trust placed in him as Principal Conductor of the Orquestra do Algarve, highlighting the special bond he has felt with the orchestra since their first collaboration in 2023. He also shared his deep connection with Portugal, which he considers a second home, and his aspiration to make classical music accessible to all audiences, contributing to societal change and improvement through his work as a musician and conductor. At GoDirect Artists Management, we celebrate this significant appointment and Pablo Urbina’s continued recognition as one of the most prominent conductors in the Spanish orchestral scene.
