Manuel Coves conducts Carmen by Johan Inger

Manuel Coves once again lends his baton to Johan Inger’s choreography for the Carmen ballet, this time at the Opera Nova in Bydgoszcz, Poland.
The original work, with music by Georges Bizet, is complemented in this ballet by Rodion Shchedrin’s arrangement, additional original music by Marc Álvarez García, and a reorchestration by Álvaro Domínguez Vázquez. This production, which premiered in 2015 at the Teatro de la Zarzuela and was commissioned by the Compañía Nacional de Danza for the Swedish choreographer, also features costume design by David Delfín.
Manuel Coves, who has previously conducted this same production with renowned companies such as English National Ballet, Les Ballets de Monte-Carlo, Semperoper Ballett, and the Compañía Nacional de Danza—on stages like Sadler’s Wells, Teatro Lirico di Cagliari, Semperoper Dresden, Festspielhaus St. Pölten, Opéra de Monte-Carlo, Teatro Principal de Palma, Teatros del Canal, and the Palacio de la Ópera in A Coruña, among others—now takes the podium of the Opera Nova Orchestra, which also provides the Ballet Company for this performance.
The performances will take place on April 26 and 27 at Opera Nova in Bydgoszcz, Poland, as part of the 31st edition of the Bydgoski Festiwal Operowy. The festival opens with the premiere of Carmen and runs until May 11. A reprise of the production is scheduled for June, with performances on the 13th, 14th, and 15th at the same venue.
