Following the premiere last Friday at the Teatro de la Maestranza in Seville of the production of Ariadne auf Naxos, the specialised press has highlighted the stupendous work of Lianna Haroutounian in the title role.
Thus, in Ópera Actual we read of her sensational work: "Ariadne was a sensational Lianna Haroutounian, with an imposing projection and a beautiful timbre which she knew how to modulate throughout the performance; moreover, she gave true dramatic intention to each phrase, to each contribution".
Diario de Sevilla notes: "Haroutounian used her spinto voice to deploy a singing line full of lyricism and brilliance, with plenty of power and metal in the silky upper range. Hers were the most beautifully enunciated phrases of the whole evening during her marvellous duet with Bacchus".
For its part, the daily ABC underlines her high level on stage: "As for the cast, we believe that of a high level, we crown the pair of Ariadne and Bacchus, Haroutounian and López Manzanitti, who won us over with their excellent adaptation to their roles, both with a Wagnerian flavour, expressive power and colour".
On the other hand, Opera World speaks of her musical richness: "Ariadne, who counted on the prodigious voice of Lianna Haroutounian [...] perfect control of the fiato and a powerful vocal projection full of timbre nuances and rich harmonics, placed at the service of these two roles who represent the operatic tradition rooted in centuries of repertoire; however, their vicissitudes are involved in a series of unexpected comic circumstances, which the singers resolved masterfully, also demonstrating exceptional acting skills".
Likewise, El Correo Web highlights the soprano's vocal qualities: "We discover then that the stupendous Lianna Haroutounian, the star of the show, does not disappoint and composes an Ariadne of beautiful timbre, perfect modulation, excellent projection and evident singing elegance".
The magazine Ritmo speaks of power and rotundity: "One can feel the hours of flight that the seasoned Armenian soprano Lianna Haroutounian has been flying, giving life to the abandoned princess, undoubtedly the most splendid and dazzling singing of the entire cast. A powerful and resounding voice that shone both in her opening Lament and in the orgiastic finale, with her powerful voice of clean emission in the high notes and a low register full of breadth". And finally, Vargas Machuca notes in his blog: "The best vocally was Lianna Haroutounian, an Armenian soprano with the voice Ariadne needs: opulent and fleshy, with trebles as brilliant as they are firm, a deep bass and a very broad fiato. That's not enough, of course. She has to sing well, and also with a lot of poetic flight".
