Leonor Bonilla dazzles in Seville at the New Year's Concert
January 9th, 2025
Following the concerts given by Leonor Bonilla on January 3rd and 4th at the Maestranza in Seville, the specialized press has highlighted the immense talent of the Sevillian soprano.
ABC newspaper remarked: “[...] In her first intervention ('Mein Herr Marquis' from Die Fledermaus), she wasted no time diving headfirst into the realm of ultra-high notes (C and D), sustaining the latter with remarkable breath control ('fiato'). [...] And once again, Bonilla came to the rescue with another aria from Die Fledermaus ('Spiel ich die Unschuld vom Lande'), which featured perilous interval leaps, a beautiful support in the low register, and high notes surpassing the previous ones (reaching an E and concluding on a D). Let us note that very few sopranos inhabit this stratosphere, and even fewer can deliver these notes so impeccably. [...] Lehár's Vilja Lied from The Merry Widow was once again entrusted to Bonilla, who altered the tonal color of her voice almost effortlessly when navigating the middle and lower registers, exhibiting an unusual and captivating brilliance as well as tasteful phrasing and elegance. She concluded with a final delicate high note (a B), on which she effortlessly performed a crescendo and diminuendo without interruption. [...] Leonor Bonilla returned to close the concert with an encore that encapsulated her entire performance, showcasing the variety of her technical resources and the palette of colors in her voice: 'Je veux vivre' by Gounod.” Diario de Sevilla highlighted the soprano's virtuosity and expressiveness: “Leonor Bonilla brought the sparkle of her coloratura and high notes to save the evening. She phrased the aria 'Mein Herr Marquis' with elegance and infused 'Spiel ich die Unschuld' with sensuality, luxuriating in the high notes, which she attacked in pianissimo with firmness and perfect tonal accuracy. Her brilliance was evident in her seamless execution of staccato notes, trills, and flourishes in Voces de primavera, culminating in a dazzlingly brilliant ultra-high note.”
