After the unanimous success with audiences—who sold out all tickets days before the premiere—critics have now also praised Leonor Bonilla’s remarkable performance as the lead in Doña Francisquita.
Scherzo highlights the soprano’s technique: "Leonor Bonilla delivered an excellent Francisquita, with beautiful sustained notes, perfectly tuned high notes in the ‘Nightingale Song,’ and clean coloratura passages."
Meanwhile, Platea Magazine praises the cast’s vocal excellence, particularly that of the lead soprano: "Vocally, the level was very high. Leonor Bonilla [...] gave her Francisquita an outstanding lyrical-light touch, and in the ‘Nightingale Song,’ she skillfully met all the pyrotechnic demands."
According to Ópera Actual, Bonilla stood out in the performances: "Musically, the lead pair made a difference. Leonor Bonilla, recipient of the 2019 ÓPERA ACTUAL Award, embodied a refined Francisquita with a beautiful voice, delighting audiences in all her interventions, especially shining in the famous ‘Nightingale Song,’ where she displayed her mastery of coloratura with dazzling high notes."
Ópera World focuses on the soprano’s nuance and projection: "Leonor Bonilla confidently embodied the sought-after Francisquita, performing with security, taste, excellent projection, and exquisitely refined nuances throughout her vocal range, always supported by the meticulous musical direction of Diego Martín-Etxebarria, and delivering a brave warble like the nightingale." Finally, La Nueva España highlights the delicacy of her singing: "Leonor Bonilla [...] delivered a stunning ‘Nightingale Song,’ standing out for her delicate phrasing, enriched with beautiful pianissimos."
