The Sevillian soprano Leonor Bonilla has been one of the great triumphs of the new production of Die Entführung aus dem Serail (The Abduction from the Seraglio) by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, presented at the Teatro Regio di Torino under the musical direction of Gianluca Capuano and the stage direction of Michel Fau. Bonilla plays Blonde, the witty English maid, a role she has approached with freshness, musicality, and impeccable technique. Italian critics have unanimously praised her performance.
Opera Mundus highlights: "Blonde, delightful, a true soubrette interpreted with freshness and confidence by the Sevillian soprano Leonor Bonilla. The well-projected vocal production, the effortless high notes, and the carefully delineated phrasing made the impertinent little English girl, who doesn't hesitate to boss even the fearsome Osmin around, more than convincing."
For its part, OperaTeatro emphasizes that "Leonor Bonilla, as Blonde, fresh and sparkling in the high notes, dominates the stage with joy and mastery," while Conessi all’Opera adds that "Leonor Bonilla's Blonde, delightfully soubrette-like, handles herself very well in the climb to the high notes of the aria 'Durch Zärtlichkeit und Schmeicheln', and then appears fresh and sparkling in the following one, 'Welche Wonne, welche Lust'."
Other media outlets join in the praise. Il Torinese defines her work as "an irresistible, luminous and lively Blonde"; OperaClick describes her as "a musically fresh, pleasant and precise Blonde"; and L'Opera oggi celebrates her as "a miracle of freshness, joy and vocal technique".
