La corte de faraón at the Teatro de la Zarzuela, starring María Rey-Joly and conducted by Carlos Aragón
28 de enero de 2025
Maestro Carlos Aragón conducts La corte de faraón, by Vicente Lleó, at the Teatro de la Zarzuela, with María Rey-Joly in the lead role as Lota.

Also known as a "biblical operetta in one act and five scenes," this sicalíptica zarzuela features music by Vicente Lleó and a libretto by Guillermo Perrin and Miguel de Palacios. It is filled with double entendres, innuendos, and comedic entanglements reminiscent of vaudeville, blending cuplé, revue, farce, opera, and zarzuela.

The cast includes María Rey-Joly as the protagonist Lota, Jorge Rodríguez-Norton as José, and Ramiro Maturana as Putifar, while Luis Cansino and Enric Martínez-Castignani will alternate in the role of the Great Pharaoh, among others.

Musical direction is entrusted to Maestro Carlos Aragón, leading the Orchestra of the Comunidad de Madrid, along with the Teatro de la Zarzuela Chorus. The production is a revival of the well-known co-production by the Teatros del Canal, Teatro Arriaga, and Teatro Campoamor, directed by Emilio Sagi.

The 15 performances will take place from January 29 to February 16 at the Teatro de la Zarzuela in Madrid.
