JOSÉ MANUEL GUINOT

Born in Elche (Alicante). Since the age of nine, he has participated as a solo singer in the Misteri d'Elx (a medieval sacred-lyric drama declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 2001) in concerts throughout Spain and abroad: Church of El Salvador in Seville, Monastery of El Escorial, Bilbao Cathedral, Valencia, Jaén and Palma de Mallorca, Basilica of El Pilar (Zaragoza), Santa Maria Maggiore (Rome), San Martín Pinario (Santiago de Compostela), La Merced (Madrid), Jakobs Kyrka (Stockholm), Santo Marcial (Avignon), Palau de les Arts (Valencia), among others.
 
He obtained his Piano Diploma with V. Narejos, and later his Voice Diploma with baritone J. A. Román. Simultaneously, he graduated with a degree in Music Education from the University of Alicante and later, at the Isabel I University of Castile (Burgos), received his Bachelor's Degree (with a specialization in Music), which was awarded the Prize for Best Academic Record for his Final Degree Project on vocal technique.

He has sung as a soloist in recitals, galas, and concerts of opera, zarzuela, song, lieder, and oratorio in various concert halls and theaters in Valencia, Barcelona, ​​Madrid, San Sebastián, Girona, Santander, Granada, and Lanzarote. He has also performed as a soloist at the Alicante Auditorium (ADDA) during the Bach Weeks, in performances of Cantatas and the la Pasión según San Juan.
  
He has participated as an active student in courses and Masterclasses on singing, repertoire and interpretation with Montserrat Caballé, Mariella Devia, Enedina Lloris, Ana Luisa Chova, Carmen Bustamante, Dolors Aldea, Isabel Penagos, María Bayo, Francesca Roig, Miquel Ortega, Alberto Zedda, José Miguel Pérez-Sierra, José Carreras, Eduard Giménez, Francisco Araiza, Jaume Aragall, Àngel Òdena, José Sempere, Anna Bigliardi, Angelo Michele Errico, Rubén Fernández Aguirre, Vincenzo Scalera and Lorenzo Bavaj.

In January 2011, he performed the role of Ernesto at the Sarrià Theatre (Barcelona) as the culmination of the Masterclasses on the opera Don Pasquale (Donizetti) taught by tenor Raúl Giménez. In February 2011, he won the Mirna Lacambra Competition for the role of Conte d'Almaviva, which granted him access to the XV Professionalization Course at the Sabadell Opera School, dedicated to Il barbiere di Siviglia, and to perform it at the La Faràndula Theatre (Sabadell), under the musical direction of Daniel Gil de Tejada and stage direction of Miquel Gorriz. In 2012 and 2013, he actively participated in the Vocal Interpretation Masterclasses taught by Maestro Alberto Zedda and performed in the final concerts of these courses at the Italian Cultural Institute and the Madrid School of Singing.

In 2013 and 2014, he won prizes in the finals of the 2nd and 3rd Elda International Singing Competition, presided over by soprano Ana María Sánchez. In 2014, he was a semifinalist in the 15th Bilbao International Singing Competition, with María Bayo as president of a jury that included Helmut Deutsch, June Anderson, Marjana Lipovsek, Paulo Abrao, and Emilio Sagi, among others. In 2015, he performed the role of Javier in the zarzuela Luisa Fernanda at the Gran Teatro de Elche. In July 2015 and 2016, he actively participated in the Opera, Oratorio, and Lied Masterclass taught by Professor Francisco Araiza at the Madrid School of Singing, and in the Spanish Song and Zarzuela Masterclass taught by Maestro Miquel Ortega. In August 2015 and 2016, he participated in a masterclass given by soprano María Bayo on Italian operas by W. A. ​​Mozart (Don Giovanni and Mitridate Re di Ponto) in Santander, alongside vocal coach Rubén Fernández Aguirre. In November 2016, he performed the role of Menico in the world premiere of Manuel García's opera, Un avvertimento ai gelosi, at the National Auditorium in Madrid and the Maestranza Theatre in Seville, under the musical direction of Rubén Fernández Aguirre and stage direction of Ignacio García.
 
In 2017, he was selected by the Cuenca Religious Music Week Academy as a soloist to perform the role of Nathanael in Schubert's oratorio Lazarus, under the musical direction of José Sanchís and the artistic direction of Cristóbal Soler at the Cuenca Auditorium, broadcast live by RNE Clásica and later by TVE. In 2018, he coordinated, performed, and conducted a large part of the pieces on the CD recording of the Misteri d'Elx, both in its current version (CD 1) and in the 1709 Consueta (CD 2), for the Phonoclassical label. In April 2019, he performed the role of Nemorino in the opera L’elisir d’amore at the Auditorium of the Conservatori Superior del Liceu (Barcelona), in the final concert of the Master in Opera, under the vocal direction of tenor Eduard Giménez and soprano Mariella Devia, with musical direction by Manel Valdivieso and stage direction by Paco Azorín.
In January 2020, he sang Rossini's Stabat Mater at the final concert of the Masterclass given by Maestro José Miguel Pérez-Sierra at the Operastudio of the University of Alcalá de Henares (Madrid), in memory of Maestro Alberto Zedda. That same month, he was selected by tenor José Carreras to participate as an active student in the Opera Masterclass at the Rossini Conservatory in Pesaro, Italy, where he opened the final concert at the Teatro Rossini, performing Prince Don Ramiro's aria from Rossini's La Cenerentola. He returned to Pesaro with Maestro Carreras in October 2021, performing Rossini's La Danza at the final concert. In August 2020, he was invited by Maestro Francisco Araiza to participate in the online Masterclasses on Opera, Oratorio, and Lied, as well as in the subsequent final concert organized by the European Music Institute of Vienna, and again in February 2022 in Munich. In December 2020, he was a Semifinalist in the New York International Opera Competition, an international online opera competition organized by the Premier Opera Foundation + NYIOP International Opera Premier of New York.

In 2021 he played the role of Count Almaviva in Il barbiere di Siviglia (Rossini) at the El Greco Auditorium (Toledo) with the La Mancha Philharmonic Orchestra, under the musical direction of Francisco A. Moya and stage direction of Ana Tebar and Eugenia Corbacho.

He was also selected by audition by the Gran Teatre del Liceu (Barcelona) for the world premiere of Rossini's opera La cuina, a production that premiered with great success at the Liceu in February 2022, and which continued to be performed in April 2022 and January 2023, in which he played the role of Guillem Tell, under the musical direction of Andreu Gallén and stage direction of David Selvas.

He is a vocal technique and repertoire teacher at the Escolanía and Capella del Misteri d'Elx, a role he has held since 2002. In 2023, the Elche City Council awarded him the city's Silver Medal for his continuous work in perfecting and enhancing its Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. He regularly works on vocal technique with Francisco Araiza, José Carreras, Eduard Giménez, José Antonio Román, and Dolors Aldea, and on repertoire with Marta Pujol, Celsa Tamayo, and Rubén Fernández Aguirre.
