Encore by Ramón Vargas at the Teatro Colón in A Coruña

On 29 September, the second performance of L'elisir d'amore took place at the Teatro Colón in A Coruña, where the tenor Ramon Vargas, after several minutes of intense applause from the audience, encored the aria Una furtiva lagrima.
In addition, the press has echoed the vocal and artistic display of the Mexican tenor after the two performances of this production. Thus, La Voz de Galicia reports the following:
"The greatest attraction of these performances was the presence of Ramón Vargas as Nemorino. An artist of a different kind, with an increasingly forgotten concept of singing and career. He still has a lot to say. His solar and Mediterranean timbre is immediately recognisable because it retains its colour, and offers a lesson in style through elegance of phrasing, ability to manage to give himself to the role and immaculate technique: let us highlight his legato in Adina credimi or his Una furtiva lagrima, where he set the standard for his warmth of voice and mastery of style, culminating in a chilling messa di voce that shows the artist that he is. [...] (beautifully) timbre with emotion, class and charisma: qualities that are hard to find. [...] The presence of Ramón Vargas raised the level to an uncommon emotion in a theatre [...]. In a panorama in which we see fewer and fewer artists of this breed, it is thrilling to hear a Vargas who justifies why he is one of the greats".
For its part, Ópera Actual praises his good work and his career:
"Ramón Vargas [...] a referential tenor; he maintains the colour [...] and scales a phrasing of many carats. The Mexican singer also achieved immediate communication with the audience, a chemistry that reached boiling point in a ‘Furtiva’ interpreted with emotion and sensitivity. His was a Nemorino sung with veteran skill".
In Bachtrack you can read that:
"Ramón Vargas headed the cast. [...] his instrument seems to have been preserved with some magical elixir, for Vargas displayed an excellent vocal level [...] a timbre that over the years has gained a deeper and more majestic colour, but always replete with musicality. He shone throughout the evening with powerful overtones and refined phrasing. In his dreamy ‘Una furtiva lagrima’ he wove expressive messa di voce and filados that flowed pure and smooth, winning over the audience, though without the desired encore; this did come in the second performance".
On the other hand, El Diario Gallego highlights its unquestionable quality:
"The return of the tenor Ramón Vargas to A Coruña to, on this occasion, take part in an opera and perform the role of Nemorino. This was one of the attractions that did not disappoint the audience who attended the Teatro Colón tonight. The Mexican tenor is one of the great names on the lyric scene, as he demonstrated throughout the performance".
In addition to participating in this production, the tenor Ramón Vargas will give a recital at the Teatro Villamarta during his visit to Spain. He will perform a selection of arias from operas (Donizetti, Rossini, Verdi) along with a selection of songs by Tosti, Agustín Lara, María Grever and Armando Manzanero. He will be accompanied by pianist Mzia Bakhtouridze.
The recital will take place on Saturday 5 October at the Teatro Villamarta in Jerez.
