Emiliano Suárez makes his debut at ABAO with Don Pasquale
October 16th, 2024
The multifaceted stage director Emiliano Suárez premieres, in co-production with the Bilbao Opera, his version of the hilarious Don Pasquale, by Gaetano Donzetti.
It is a new production by ABAO Bilbao Opera and Okapi Producciones, signed by Emiliano Suárez, which moves the action of the original libretto to a familiar Neapolitan pizzeria, and in which the stage where the story takes place resembles a giant pizza box. The set design is by Alfons Flores, the lighting design is by David Picazo and the costumes are the work of Carola Baleztena in collaboration with the fashion company Scalpers.
For his debut in ABAO, Emiliano will count in this production with the voices of Simón Orfila as Don Pasquale, the naive Ernesto, who will be played by Francesco de Muro, and the astute Norina, in the voice of the soprano Maria José Moreno. The baritone Damián del Castillo will be in charge of giving life to Doctor Malatesta.
Maestro Sesto Quatrini makes his debut at the helm of the Euskadiko Orkestra. The opening of the season will take place on October 19, and the rest of the performances will continue on October 22, 25, 26 and 28 at the Palacio Euskalduna.
