Ana Ibarra in the double bill La vida breve / Tejas Verdes at Teatro Real
February 12th, 2025
Mezzo-soprano Ana Ibarra will be one of the principal figures in the upcoming double bill at Teatro Real in Madrid, running from February 13 to 22. On this occasion, Ibarra will perform two roles: La Abuela in La vida breve by Manuel de Falla and La Doctora in the world premiere of Tejas Verdes by Jesús Torres.
La vida breve, a two-act lyrical drama with music by Manuel de Falla and a libretto by Carlos Fernández Shaw, is a cornerstone of the Spanish repertoire, exploring themes of love, betrayal, and social disparity. Tejas Verdes, on the other hand, is a contemporary opera by Jesús Torres with a libretto by Fermín Cabal. It addresses political repression and historical memory, drawing inspiration from Cancionero y romancero de ausencias by Miguel Hernández. Jordi Francés will conduct both works, while Rafael R. Villalobos will handle stage direction, costume, and set design. The cast also features Adriana González, Eduardo Aladrén, Rubén Amoretti, Gerardo Bullón, Alejandro del Cerro, Natalia Labourdette, and Alicia Amo, among others. The Teatro Real’s Orchestra and Chorus will also participate under the baton of Maestro Francés.
Performances will take place at the Main Hall of the Teatro Real on February 13, 15, 17, 19, 20, and 22.
