Ángeles Blancas in Ópera Actual: I put my soul in each role
10 of September of 2024
The magazine Ópera Actual has interviewed Ángeles Blancas, highlighting the great interpretive charisma of the soprano who in recent times has given life to great women of opera: Kostelnička (Jenůfa, Teatro de la Maestranza), Goneril (Lear, Teatro Real), Medea (Mérida Festival) and now Katerina Ismáilova.
She makes her debut in this last role in the coming weeks at the Gran Teatre del Liceu, giving life to the title role in the opera Lady Macbeth of Mtsensk, by the Russian composer Dmitri Shostakovich. Throughout the interview, especially relevant topics in her career are discussed, for example, the 30 years that separate her beginnings in belcanto from contemporary opera, a repertoire in which she acknowledges that she feels very good and assumes that it is "a logical transformation".
She also mentions the Ópera XXI award, obtained for her performance as Kostelnička in the Teatro de la Maestranza's production of Jenůfa, a recognition of which she feels especially satisfied, and talks about important composers in her current and future repertoire, such as Janáček, Prokofiev , Strauss or Wagner.
Furthermore, the text mentions some of her notable engagements this season, such as her participation in Il Trittico at ABAO next November and the New Year's Concert with tenor Alejandro Roy, entitled Festejando el porvenir, which will take place in the Teatro de la Zarzuela, among others.
