Ángeles Blancas, impressive in Lady Macbeth of Mtsensk
Ocober 2nd, 2024
After her first performance on 27 September at the Gran Teatre del Liceu, the specialised press highlights the magnificent work of Ángeles Blancas in the main role of Lady Macbeth of Mtsensk.
Scherzo magazine highlights the soprano's drama and stage presence: "Soprano Ángeles Blancas makes Katerina's tensions and unleashed emotions her own with great energy and stage presence: the role is exhausting and full of edges, because it is both tragic and lyrical opera, and in that lyricism a lonely and tormented woman emerges. As an actress she is impressive and vocally [...] she goes from strength to strength throughout the performance".
For its part, the magazine Ópera Actual highlights the nuances of her interpretation: "a Katerina Ismailova of the Spanish Ángeles Blancas more nuanced and expressive on an acting and singing level. The soprano offered a more human character, with a warmer timbre and well contrasted, with more emphatic passages and high notes in forte, which are quite numerous. [...] Blancas, fully committed, received a standing ovation for her very credible and outstanding performance at the end of the show".
The newspaper Lleguir highlights the soprano's vocal and stage power: "Ángeles Blancas worked as Katerina, with rounded and piercing high notes, and unquestionable stage performance [...] the soprano's great vocal strength and health, which still sounds full and full of harmonics, both in the high and low notes, allow her to carry the role of the protagonist without faltering". Platea Magazine also highlights Ángeles Blancas' interpretative talents: ‘"According to Shostakovich, Katerina Izmailova is ‘an intelligent and gifted woman, suffocated by her ambition and the search for an outlet for her energies’. This tremendous (and difficult) character was performed by Ángeles Blancas. Intense, committed and imbued with the depth of her character, the balance of her performance is remarkable. [...] a performance that was also very convincing theatrically".
