Zayra Ruiz shines at the New Year's Concert

Soprano Zayra Ruiz participated in the New Year's Concert Zarzuela con sabor latinoamericano held on January 3, 2026, at the Teatro de la Zarzuela in Madrid. Joining her on stage were tenor Andrés Presno, baritone Darío Solari, and mezzo-soprano Nancy Fabiola Herrera. The Orchestra of the Community of Madrid, under the musical direction of José Miguel Pérez-Sierra, performed a program that combined zarzuela and Latin American-inspired repertoire.
Specialized critics have particularly highlighted Zayra Ruiz's performance. Ópera Actual wrote: "Zayra Ruiz, with her fabulous stage presence and powerful, balanced, ample, radiant voice, capable of dizzying coloratura without apparent difficulty," also noting that "she shone in the romance 'Yo quiero a un hombre' from El cabo primero and sang with well-controlled expressiveness a memorable, nuanced version of the well-known 'Mulata infeliz' from María la O by Lecuona."

On the other hand, Ritmo magazine highlighted the duet of La africana performed by Zayra Ruiz and Andrés Presno, stating that they offered "brilliance and fluidity in both," and added that the interpretation of Mulata infeliz "revived, with its grace, this success of yesteryear."
