Sara Bañeras began her musical studies through the Suzuki method in singing and piano. A graduate in economics, she studied at the Conservatorio Superior de Valencia, where she obtained a Master’s in Opera. She has trained with soprano Ofelia Sala and tenor Dalmau González.
She has also attended masterclasses with M. Caballé, L. Serra, R. Scotto, M. Devia, P. Ciofi, F. Cedolins, T. Berganza, E. Fiorillo, F. Roig, N. Fabiola Herrera, J.D. Flórez, E. Palacio, J. Aragall, C. Merritt, R. Gimenez, and L. Regazzo, as well as conductors M. Ortega, A. Zedda, J.M. Pérez Sierra, and C. Soler. She has participated in several Opera Studios such as the “Escola d’Òpera de Sabadell,” where she performed Le nozze di Figaro, Operastudio Alcalá de Henares, and Accademia Rossiniana di Pesaro, where she performed Il viaggio a Reims at the Rossini Opera Festival.
She has been awarded, among others, the 1st Prize at the Concurs Palet de Martorell (2021), Special Prize at Compostela Lírica (2020), Best Lied Interpretation at the Concurso Canto Alcalá de Henares (2022), Ferrer-Salat Scholarship at the Concurso Viñas (2020), 2nd Prize at the Concurso Internacional de Música de Las Corts (2018), Award at the Concours International de Belcanto (2018), and 2nd Prize at the Concurso Internacional de Canto de Medinaceli (2017).
Her debut took place in the Catalan zarzuela Cançó d’amor i de guerra, performing the role of Francina. Since then, she has taken on operatic roles such as Pamina, Erste Dame, and Papagena in Die Zauberflöte; Frasquita in Carmen; Amore in Orfeo ed Euridice; Madame Silberklang and Madame Herz in Der Schauspieldirektor; Miss Rowan in The Little Sweep; Lisinga in Le Cinesi; Alfonsina in Il convito; Rosalinde in a Catalan adaptation of Die Fledermaus; and Soprano in The Four-Note Opera, in addition to performing the cantata Carmina Burana. In zarzuela, she has performed roles such as Cosette in Bohemios and Carolina in Luisa Fernanda. She has also participated in the show Papageno and Cia organized by Caixaforum, which took her on tour throughout Spain.
She has performed at prominent festivals, theaters, and events such as the Rossini Opera Festival (Pesaro, Italy), Festival Rossini in Wildbad (Germany), Gstaad New Year Music Festival (Switzerland), Sankt Goar International Music Festival (Germany), New Year’s Concert in Canet-en-Roussillon (France), Vêndome Music Festival (France), Ticino Music Festival (Switzerland), Ciclo de Cambra Primer Palau, Festival Life Victoria, Auditorio Príncipe Felipe (Oviedo), Auditorio E. Granados (Lleida), Teatro Municipal de Gerona, T. Fortuny (Reus), Teatro La Faràndula (Sabadell), Palau de la Música (Valencia), Red de Juventudes Musicales de España, and Festival Daurada Escena (Tarragona), among many others.
Among her recent performances are the role of Adina in L’elisir d’amore at the Teatro Mayor Julio Mario Santo Domingo in Bogotá, her debut at the Liceu as Contessa di Ceprano in Rigoletto and Musetta in La bohème at the Palau de la Música Catalana—all received with great public and critical acclaim--La traviata in concert version in Gerona, recording a cycle of songs by Joan Manau, and a concert tour with Juventudes Musicales de España. She also performed in the show Papageno and Cia by Caixaforum in various cities and gave recitals in Alcalá de Henares and El Escorial interpreting Mahagonny and The Seven Deadly Sins by Kurt Weill. Additionally, she has been a guest soloist in the 2022–23 concert tour of waltzes and dances with the Orquesta Sinfónica del Vallés. Since 2021, she has regularly performed the role of Violetta Valery in La traviata with Novaria Artist at the Palau de la Música Catalana, a central role in her repertoire.
Her recent and upcoming engagements include Cunning Little Vixen by Janáček at the Liceu in Barcelona, a recital at the Ambigú of the Teatro de la Zarzuela, La Traviata at the Palau de la Música Catalana, Papageno and Cia in Seville, and Simfonova at the Auditorio de Gerona and the Gran Teatre Liceu in Barcelona.
