On May 22nd and 23rd, Iker Sánchez conducted the 15th concert of the Orquesta Sinfónica de Bilbao this season. With violinist Michail Ovrutsky on stage and works by Rodrigo, Bruch, and Dvorák in the program, the conductor born in Irún was highly acclaimed by the audience and praised by the critics. Karmelo Errekatxo, for instance, wrote in the newspaper “El Correo” that, with Dvorák’s “Sixth”, “conductor Iker Sánchez seems to have fully understood Czech Republic’s music nationalism, obtaining a version of instrumental fierceness. He was standing in for the guest conductor that could not make it on time due to the closing of European airports, which makes this young Basque conductor’s performance all the more outstanding.”
